The mirror retains all original mirror plates, with the central beveled mirror framed within a finely mottled and beaded band with foliate and seashell movements leading out to the outer mirror plates and patinated corner mounts of palmettes. The patinated metal frame showcases wonderful embossed sculptural decoration using a technique known as “Repoussé”. Repoussé is when the metal (in this case either copper or brass) is shaped by hammering from the reverse side, creating decorative elements in low relief when viewed from the front.
